somehow this meeting with myself, sales manager, and a pair of people from a video/advertising company, derailed for a few minutes into the pros and cons of millennials,
and while sales manager appreciates how great we are with technology and how we keep her looped into the future,
she also brought up the "entitled millennials" spiel. Her argument was that she was told how bad she was for 30 years to get her to work harder, and now she's great at her job (and, credit where credit is due, she is)
bless the dude from the other company who politely said "yeah, but I think part of that comes from, we have access to all of this information now, so I think our approach is 'why wait for 30 years when I have everything I need to get started right now'"?
I didn't say anything because I did not want to extend this meeting any further (got a minor fever, lads) but I was apparently making an "I obviously disagree" face that everyone had a good laugh at
look, regardless of age groups there's always that one person skating by on daddy's money who is acting like an entitled child, that's a parenting issue, not a generational issue
I don't think anyone was demanding that, upon completion of higher education, we be handed the keys to a brand new car and a nice house. We're disenfranchised because we were fed this though process of, "if you want a good job you have to go to college, and if you want to go to college you need to do well in grade school." but by the time we did all that, the jobs everyone expected us to have access to no longer existed (positions cut entirely, outsourced, or still occupied because people couldn't retire when planned because the economy took a hit, and their money went to bills, rent, medical expenses, etc instead of 401ks), the housing market crashed, and retail/service jobs are wrongfully looked down on and as such don't pay enough and are dreadful to work in, physically and mentally
